The Friends of Friedrich Fröbel, based in Bad Liebenstein, was established in order to preserve and publicise Fröbel’s philosophy, and to encourage its practice in educational facilities.

The association is active in supporting discussions and reflections over Fröbel’s body of work through the preparation of publications and projects, as well as establishing relationships with other groups, educational facilities and interested stakeholders, both within Germany and internationally. The association is also in contact with networks, institutions and government agencies, meeting regularly to exchange experiences.

Co-operation between science, practice and politics is encouraged by the association, such as the scientific reworking of the Thuringen school history and the formation of education-related information proposals. The network also accepts the responsibility of preventing Fröbel’s life, achievements and name from being used for commercial purposes.

Since 2014, the Friends of Friedrich Fröbel has been active in the planning and implementation of the annual “Altenstein Fröbel Festival” in Bad Liebenstein. The association has also been involved in organising information events, supporting educational facilities (such as profiling in the context of the Fröbel philosophy and support of student studies on the theme), and maintaining the Friedrich Fröbel Circular Walking Trail, Fröbel Grave and Fröbel Memorial Room.
