Since 2013, a new family attraction has existed in the forest around the Oberweißbach Mountain Railway in Lichtenhain – the Fröbel Forest.

Following the philosophy of Friedrich Fröbel, the playground provides a playful and instructive insight into the forest and history of the Schwarzatal. All senses are stimulated, encouraging visitors to consciously use their childlike instinct for play and activity. Adults (parents, teachers etc.) are encouraged to accompany and support their children in their efforts to experience and understand the world – a concept that follows the foundation of the Fröbel philosophy.

The Thuringia Forest Association offers age-appropriate forest treks for children's groups.

The use of the Fröbel Forest is free.
