The Friedrich Fröbel Kindergarten in Schweina is one of eight Fröbel Model Kindergartens in Thuringia, which can be recognised by the Fröbel logo prominently displayed on the outside of the main building. The kindergarten is owned by the municipality and has capacity for 100 children, who range from one to seven years in age, spread across six groups.

Today’s kindergarten building has been used since 1905 for educational purposes, following Fröbel’s teachings. With help from Caroline von Weiß’s foundation, the kindergarten was opened in May 1905. In 1926, the upper storey was converted for use as a rural children’s care facility, which was replaced between 1951-1976 by a children’s home. Since then, all rooms have been used for kindergarten purposes.
